Why is he running?
Service is important to me. I owe everything good in my life to my country and my community, and public service is the best way for me to repay that debt. There are enormous needs in my neighborhood that my state leadership has failed to address, year after year, and I would like to put in the hard work to solve those problems.
Why are you an independent?
As an elected official, I want to be accountable to my neighbors, not partisan bosses.
What are your top three priority issues?
Ousting predatory slumlords in my community, fixing deadly infrastructure, and improving access to healthcare. All three of these priorities will involve complex legislation.
What are your positions that help support empowering independents (open primaries etc)?
Nebraska, on paper, is an example for the nation. We have open primaries, our legislature is nonpartisan, and our electoral votes are not winner-take-all. However, all of those features that make Nebraska special have been under attack for decades. I would defend these and build allies to prevent the erosion of Nebraska’s longstanding independent spirit.
What will you do to support your fellow veterans and members of the military community?
I am active in my local veterans’ groups, and am close with many veterans across the generations. As an elected official, I would be the only young veteran in Nebraska’s legislature. I hope to serve on the committee that is trusted with protecting and supporting our service members and veterans.
