Why is he running?

I am running for the Learning Community Coordinating Council, District #6, because I have a deep personal connection to the challenges that many of our students face. Growing up in poverty, I experienced firsthand the obstacles that can hinder a child’s educational journey. These experiences have shaped my belief in the power of education as a transformative tool for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a better future. As a substitute teacher across multiple districts, I see the diverse needs of our students every day and understand the critical importance of addressing educational inequities. My goal is to work towards systemic changes that ensure every child, regardless of their socio-economic background, has access to quality education and the resources they need to succeed. By serving on the Council, I aim to advocate for policies and programs that support underprivileged children and families, striving to close the achievement gap and build a stronger, more inclusive community​

Why are you an independent?

While the position of Learning Community Coordinating Council member is nonpartisan by design, my approach to this role aligns with the spirit of being independent. In this position, I am committed to representing all constituents, regardless of their political affiliation. I believe that education should be free from partisan influence because it is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of our community’s future. By focusing on nonpartisan, evidence-based policies, I aim to collaborate with all stakeholders to find the best solutions for our children’s education. This nonpartisan stance allows me to prioritize the needs of students and families without the constraints of party politics, ensuring that every decision I make is in the best interest of our community.

What are your positions that help support empowering independents (open primaries etc)? 

1. Open Primaries: Support open primaries to allow all voters, regardless of party affiliation, to participate in primary elections. 
2. Ranked-Choice Voting: Advocate for ranked-choice voting to give voters more options and ensure that elected officials represent a broader support base. 
3. Nonpartisan Redistricting Commissions: Endorse the creation of independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions to prevent gerrymandering and ensure fair representation. 
4. Increased Ballot Access: Promote policies that make it easier for independent candidates to get on the ballot, such as reducing signature requirements and eliminating restrictive filing fees.

What will you do to support your fellow veterans and members of the military community? 

As a veteran, I understand the unique challenges veterans and military community members face. I will advocate for educational programs and policies that support veterans and their families, ensuring they have access to quality education and resources. Additionally, I will work to create partnerships with local organizations to provide support services and opportunities for veterans to contribute to our community.
