Why is he running?

I believe we all have more in common with each other than we do with the partisans who run Washington. I am bringing Nebraskans together around a common-sense platform to protect small businesses, family farms and ranches, and middle-class jobs — before they become a thing of the past.

Why are you an independent?

I don’t fit inside a box, like a lot of Americans. Washington is broken, and we need to send leaders there who will stand up and be willing to break through the two-party system.

What are your top three priority issues? 

I don’t have just three, but I’m very focused on standing up for small businesses and family farms, passing the Railway Safety Act to protect our communities in Nebraska, and fighting corruption and corporate greed in Washington.

What are your positions that help support empowering independents (open primaries etc)? 

American politics is stuck in a two-party doom loop. Congress should have a commission on electoral reform, and we should adopt reforms like proportional representation that break up the duopoly in our politics and take on the problem of gerrymandering.

What will you do to support your fellow veterans and members of the military community? 

As of last year, 300,000 VA claims have been backlogged for more than 125 days. We need to fully fund the VA and fund and create better programs that offer job placement and training for veterans.
